Personally, I'd like to see (as i think readers would like) basic "How to" articles... such as "How to perform a Side Piercing Kick" etc.

I'm currently teaching a weapons class in the use of a Jang Bong (long stick). I have the Sang H. Kim Videos, but am wondering if there are any other videos on the use of a Jang Bong. I would also appreciate any articles written on its use from other schools. Thanks, ahgo

I am researching self-defence applications of TKD. I would like to hear from people who, in the course of their work or everyday life, have had cause use their TKD skills in self-defence.
I would like to know where these have proved useful or inadequate.
This is not in any way to glorify violence, and I would ask contributors to bare in mind the urgency of the threat they faced - did you really need to respond? and the proportionality of their response - did you respond in a reasonable manner?

This is me doing Won Hyo or Pyung Ahn Eedan with the stick... ...and these are a few of the applications we have taken from this.

Hi Jungshin, I have seen these videos on Youtube. I like them because you show the application with the empty hand form. In my association, we do that at all black belt testings (i.e. take and empty hand form and put a weapon with it). Thanks, but I'm looking for more info on the Jang Bong. I know that Moodukwan has something in their training with Jang Bong, but can't find the location of their videos.

Jungshin, Yes I am. It is the AMTA (American Midwest Taekwondo Association).

Jungshin, We are primarily ITF TKD. Black belts are cross training in other arts too. We do Haragei Ryu Jukido (it is a mixture of Ju Jitsu and Aikido), Tai Chi Chuan, and many of the weapons arts. However, our base art is TKD.
I'm not sure why my instructor titled his style as Tae Kyon Jitsu Do. It is Chung Do Kwan ITF TKD.
What other weapons do you do Jungshin? ahgo

What other weapons do you do Jungshin? ahgo i also teach nunchuku as a good way to build hand eye corordination. but i don't really see them as being a practical moderan day weapon. in the last year or so i have been working on escrima with my instructor Prof Rick Clark of AoDenkouJitsu. i've also done some kubotan type work in hapkido, but with what they called a dan-bong (really short stick).

I've played with Nunchaku, but not really studied them. I have studied a little Escrima from Prof. Phil Lewis. He is the head of the AMA (Ambassador Martial Arts). I don't care for the forward stances in Escrima. It's a great art, just not for me. I have worked with the sai and tonfa too. I would like to do some work in hapkido though. It is real close to jukido in which I have my shodan. Good talkin' to you, Jungshin. Ahgo

I`d like to see some articles on effective stretching to increase flexibility, which is something I struggle with as a relative newbie.

Hi Steve, While there's always room for more articles on stretching when it comes to TKD, you might like to have a look at the Sequences of Stretching article found in issue two if you haven't done so already. It should give you some good starting tips!
