Short answer, no one I know personally practices applications like that. Almost everything is taken as kick/block/punch. I see this as a result in large part to the teaching methods of the Funakoshis in the 1930's. What came to Korea was really the start of the 3 K's of Japanese Karate. The surface level interpretation of the forms can be seen in Duk Sung Son's book, Korean Karate. Not all the moves are explained and some explanations make little sense.
