I received this from a Totally TKD reader: ----------- I would like to ask for your opinion on the so called "cheating" incident happened during Asian Game TKD match. Here is a clip of the match, which is in Chinese but I will highlight the key points: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdPcXA0AMMc ¡@¡@2:09: Something was wrong while tesitng the sensors ¡@¡@2:23: They think the sensors at the back of the foot should be removed ¡@¡@2:45: The sensors at the back of the foot have been removed ¡@¡@3:00: Match starts ¡@¡@3:14: Head Impact +3 Chest Impact +1 ¡@¡@3:38: 2nd Head Impact +3 ¡@¡@4:03: Spin-kick should be awarded with +2 but since using the LaJust only gives off +1 ¡@¡@4:16: Match paused, Taiwan coach demands extra socre to be added ¡@¡@4:43: TV score board changed from 8:0 to 9:0 ¡@¡@5:25: Match paused again, and the officials are mumbling something ¡@¡@6:40: The officials demanded the referee to fetch the extra paddings from the Taiwan coach Later a news conference was held, and WTF Secretary General claimed that the red player was caught using the extra sensor padding during the game. If you have time, would you be able to answer the following question for me? 1. Does testing sensor count towards a part of the game? If so then shouldn't the player be disqualified on the spot instead of after her having scored 9:0? 2. Is the "extra" padding at the back of her foot really illegal? According to www.raynerslanetkd.com/TTKD/TotallyTKD_Issue_11.pdf page 61/66: "...You can clearly see the two gray areas on the top of the sock and the two additional gray bands running across the heel and midsection." Also in www.napataekwondo.com/lajustsportsupdate/ states that: "...sock sensors cover the top, back and heel of the foot..." So why do Yang have to remove the padding in the first place and on what basis do they accuse Yang of cheating? 3. Even if the act is illegal, is disqualification necessary? Or Yang should simply be given panalties or request for rematch? It will be very nice if we can get some feedbacks from real Taekwondo masters like you!

AFAIA, they were not Japanese systems, but Okinawan. Choi used them to formulate the TKD tul. As they were taught to him by the Japanese (Koreas hated nemisis), it stands to reason he wanted to get rid of them. Also, I believe they were split into hard and soft styles and Choi felt he was combining the two. And of course the General wanted something he felt was Korean, hence trying to iradicate any Japanese influence, that in his mind, obviously, though incorrectly, being a biggie! Stuart Recently I obtained a copy of the 1965 Taekwon-Do book by Choi Hong Hi. It is great to read through and appreciate the evolution Taekwon-Do has made over the years, as well as changes to the art by general Choi. One of the most intriguing is the fact that this book mentions two other 'schools' of japanese origin, and their patterns, namely the Sho-Rin and Sho-Rei schools. I am intrigued to find out why these patterns were later omitted from the curriculum of Gen Choi's Taekwon-Do, sticking with the 24 patterns from his own Chang Hon style, and which became the foundation of the ITF curriculum. Does anyone know more about this part of TKD's history? I would love to see an article about that too. :-) Thank you and Taekwon!

Taekwon-Do Movie Due Out Soon As many of you know this film has been in production for a while now (since 2004), but word has it that its due for a release this Autumn. The film contains dozens of interviews with some of the most important people in both ITF and WTF Taekwon-do, as well as rare archive footage. Originally it started as a single film, but the amount of material meant it has now been split into 2 seperate films, AND contains footage from the first American film crew ever allowed to film within North Korea. The fist of these is called "Tong-Il: Breaking Boards, Bricks and Borders", which is in its post-production phase. The film is about General Choi's life long dream to use Taekwon-do to unite his country, which Grandmaster Jung Woo Jin took over when he passed away. Grandmaster Jung hosted the North Korean team on a goodwill tour of the USA, enemy nations which held the 1st ever cultural exchange though Taekwon-do. The films have a web site: www.TONG-ILmovie.com, where you can see the trailer, stills and info about the project. You can also register for email alerts to keep you updated on the films progress, including where to see it in your area. They also have a facebook page where they update everyone on the films progress, this can be found at www.facebook.com/pages/LUV-FILMS/348634013157 - Im sure the producer (Luan Van Le) would value you joining this page, maybe giving is a 'thumbs up' (like it) to show your support for this project. The info for this post has come from both George Vitale, who many of you will know from the pages of TotallyTKD magazine, for his indepth historical articles, as he has been heavily involved with these films, as well as the producer Luan Van Le.

I graded for my black belt in 2005 I am still a first degree, others have since graded in my club but nothing has been said to me. Im not into the sport side of taekwindo and do not believe in it what so ever (is it a sport or a martial art it can't be both). I believe if i was interseted in the sport side i would have graded by now. What to others think. I think maybe you should drop a hint, rather than ask straight outright - if your club works on iviting people to grade. Stuart

Okay folks,
The magazine needs your help. If you wanna try and help out its really easy. All I need you to do is have a think about Tae Kwon Do people (of any org, style or systm) that you remember has written some good TKD related stuff. This can be in magazines, association news letters, association web sites or their club/personal web sites.
Now, when you think of someone, please do the following: 1. Find a photo of them on the web 2. Email me (editor@totallytkd.com) their name, organisation + the photo or a link to the photo
If you want, you can also mention them here on this thread.
The magazine will then put their picture in an issue, in the hope that it will motivate them to send some good stuff for publication in the magazine! Remember, articles can be ANYTHING TKD related.
If you send something, we wont print your name (so no-one can get in trouble because of politics) and it may prompt them to take action and a win win situation occurs - the magazine gets good articles and they and their organisation gets great publicity!
I hope some of you take up the challenge!
Thanks,
Stuart
Ps. I don't just want a list of TKD people you like, or people you may want interviewed etc. (though feel free to take that gauntlet up - that would be cool), but those who you recall wrote stuff that interested you, even if you cant quite remember what it was exactly.
PPs. Remember - Name, org and picture

Instead of listing out all the articles in each issue, simply start a new thread by clicking 'New Thread' and use the article title as the thread title.
Just ensure its under the correct issue.
Regards,
Stuart

Simply get a kick sheild and power will increase with practice. Stuart

I have just started reading your book and notice that it is Volume 1. Do you know when Volume 2 will be coming out. Cant say exactly, except its being worked on now (with a bit more added gusto than before due to some issues we had with it all - long story but they delayed Volume 2 considerably). Many thanks for getting it, Im glad your enjoying it and cheers for the recommendations. Stuart

If you liked a particular article.. why not let the author know by leaving a small note on the thread... I know they will appreciate it.
